Havana.- Players from 17 countries are competing at the 38th Capablanca In Memoriam International Chess Tournament in this capital.
On this occasion, participants will compete in the Elite, Premier I, Premier
II and mixed categories, with possibilities to win the degrees of Grand Master
and International Master.
Among the most outstanding players is Peruvian Grand Master (GM) Julio Granda,
who ranks 65 in the world, with an ELO of 2,628 points.
The list of participants also includes Giovanni Vescovi (2,615), from Brazil,
and Lázaro Bruzón (2,610) and Lenier Domínguez (2,603),
from Cuba.
Other players are the Grand Masters Ulf Anderson, from Sweden; Jaaan Ehlvest,
from Estonia; Viacheslav Ikonikov, from Russia; Alonso Zapata, from Colombia;
Rafael Leitao, from Brazil, and Iván Morovic, from Chile.
Europe is also represented by the Grand Masters Petrer Szekely, from Hungary;
Luis Galego, from Portugal, and Florian Handke, from Germany.
