There were over 440 000 visitors plus 900 000 books sold in the course of the first stage of the fair held in Havana and now, it?s touring the western provinces, as reported by Jorge Luna, General Director of the 12th Book Fair.

provinces, as reported by Jorge Luna, General Director of the 12th Book Fair.
The first foreign awards were to: Random House Mondadori, (Mexico); the book
stand (France) and Edaf Antillas, (Puerto Rico); while the Cuban prizes went
to Gente Nueva book stand, the Historian?s Office in Havana and WSP.
Under most original category Papel Hecho a Mano (Argentina), Abril (UJC) publishing
house and Vig?a editorial (Matanzas) were awarded. There was a special
prize ranted to the best exhibitor according to the presentation and originality
of the work. It went to the Andean Community of Nations (Venezuela, Peru, Colombia,
Bolivia and Ecuador), Honor Guests.
Members of the Political Bureau, Jos? Ram?n Balaguer and Abel
Prieto, Minister of Culture; Iroel S?nchez, President of the Book Fair
and the homaged poet Pablo Armando Fern?ndez headed the awarding ceremony.
